We Need More Park-keepers To Make Our Playgrounds Safe

Cllr. Ed Ruane is calling on the Council to allocate additional resources for more park keepers in response to the Council’s Playbuilder programme, where 6 play areas will be developed by March 2009 and a further 14-19 will be developed by March 2011. There are two new play areas in this years programme.

Ed said: “The construction of new play areas in the past have been met with a large amount of opposition from local residents, such as Lakeview Road and Radford Common, due to the level of anti-social behaviour these sites can attract.”

“It is clear from the public's reaction that the Council’s first duty is to propose a raft of measures to help reclaim these public spaces, including play areas, from fear of gangs and the absence of adult authority figures. I believe that too many parks in our city have no supervision at all.”
