Funding For "That Little Extra Push"

Councillor
Jim O'Boyle (St. Michael's) and Councillor Lynnette Kelly (Henley) have welcomed news that schools in their wards are to receive a
bonanza in extra funding to give children one to one tuition to help
those who need that little extra push to achieve their potential. As
part of the Labour Governments 'Making Good Progress' Initiative, Coventry is now in receipt of £827K to give nearly 2000 kids a chance to show what they are made of.
In St. Michael's Ward, with some of the highest indicators for deprivation in the country, schools stand to benefit to the tune of £58,880 giving 148 children extra help. In Henley ward the figure is £53,360, giving 120 pupils the chance to shine. Children will benefit from 10 hours of tuition to help them reach their full potential in English and/or maths.
Councillor Jim O'Boyle said: "I welcome this extra money for children in St. Michael's. It’s a great Christmas present. It demonstrates yet again Labours commitment to education for our young people and shows that we will never give up on our youngsters unlike the Conservatives who want to cut back funding now putting at risk both the economic recovery and children's future."
Councillor Kelly echoed these sentiments: "Together with the roll out of new schools being rebuilt in Coventry with the GraceAcademy in Henley and Sidney Stringer in Hillfields already in progress, this gives real and tangible evidence of our commitment to education. The Conservative Party would put all this at risk threatening the futures of our young people just like they did in the 1980's."
