Labour's Cancer Treatment Is Right – Official!
Representatives of University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire confirmed that the two week referral limit to see patients suspected of having cancer was a 'clinical imperative' and they would not want to see the target removed.Councillor Jim O'Boyle who asked the question at a recent health scrutiny meeting at Coventry City Council, said he was pleased with the answer which confirmed support for the government's two week cancer target as part of Labour's manifesto for the forthcoming election.
Jim said: "This answer proves Labour's policy is correct. For doctors to say it is a clinical imperative shows Labour is on the side of patients. This also proves that the Conservative plan to scrap this target if they get into power is both wrong and cruel.
"It is wrong because it goes against medical advice. It is cruel because it would condemn patients to lengthy waits to confirm whether they have the disease or not. The truth is it could also prove fatal in some cases.
"This policy of the Conservatives shows they care little about patients never mind the NHS. Cameron claims the Conservatives support the NHS. This policy of denying urgent diagnosis to worried and scared patients shows the Conservative leopard has not changed its ugly spots."
