The Conservative - Liberal coalition government is continuing it's attack on the young people of Coventry.

Just a short time after hearing that they have stopped any new schools in Coventry, councillors have now been told that money for play areas is being taken away.

The Playbuilder fund has been running in Coventry for 2 years, and this year was due to fund new play areas in several locations, including Hillfields, Holbrooks, Foleshill and the Memorial Park. The government has ordered Coventry to stop any more work using Playbuilder money, and has said it is taking back any funds that are unspent.

Cllr Lynnette Kelly, Cabinet member for Education in Coventry, said today that this is yet another blow for the city. "The Tories and Lib Dems should be ashamed of what they are doing. These were play areas that were planned for areas of the city where they were desperately needed, and the fact that we will have to make massive cuts in what we spend on play areas will be a huge disappointment for all the children affected.

"We are seeing what we can still do with the money that we have from other sources, but this means a massive cut in what we were expecting to provide in the city."
